Ding Dong the Bill is Dead!

Posted by Trisha on June 28th, 2007

Hooray!

WASHINGTON (AP) – The Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush’s plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, likely postponing major action on immigration until after the 2008 elections.
After the stinging political setback, Bush sounded resigned to defeat.

“Legal immigration is one of the top concerns of the American people, and Congress’ failure to act on it is a disappointment,” he said after an appearance in Newport, R.I. “A lot of us worked hard to see if we couldn’t find common ground. It didn’t work.”

The bill’s Senate supporters fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed to limit debate and clear the way for final passage of the legislation, which critics assailed as offering amnesty to illegal immigrants. The vote was 46 to 53 in favor of limiting the debate.

It’s about time they start listening to us! If we can’t enforce the laws we have now, no amount of new laws will ever matter.

My childhood come to life

Posted by Trisha on June 22nd, 2007

It appears that my childhood is coming back to life this summer. In what way? On the silver screen. My childhood toys and books are coming to the bigscreen this summer. A few of my favorites have already made it in the past (How to eat fried works, Narnia, Lord of the Flies) but always sporadically. Lord of the Flies is my all time favorite book. I read it as a sophomore, I believe, and fell in love with it. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it!

I was always a HUGE Nancy Drew fan. I had (and still do at my mom’s house somewhere) almost the entire collection of mysteries, including some of the Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys novels. I am super pumped to go see that movies, though I’m pretty sure I’ll be watching it by myself, lol. I really think Emma Roberts will be fantastic in that movie.

Transformers is another movie that I am looking forward to seeing. I loved playing with transformers as a kid and have delighted in seeing the boys enjoy them, as well. Not to mention that I like so many of the actors in the movie. It should be fun. DH and I will have to screen it first before we know whether we can let boys see it. I am really hoping it’s appropriate for them, though. I think it’s a movie they would thoroughly enjoy.

Another of my favorite childhood books turned into a movie this summer is Bridge to Terebithia. It went straight to DVD, however. I do plan on renting it. I think I might check the book out from the library and re-read it before I see the movie, though. It’s definitely a good read if you’re into adventure books (well, for kids, anyway, lol).

Speaking of adventures…Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix comes out July 11th. I can’t wait! I especially can’t wait for book number 7 to be in my mailbox on July 21st! No standing in line for me! It took me 16 hours to read book number 6. Wonder how long it will take me to read the final book?

Indianapolis 500 pictures!

Posted by Trisha on June 1st, 2007

I’ve been MIA from my blog for awhile. I spent the greater part of last week helping my neighbor move. She left Wednesday and it has been very weird. I still catch myself looking out the kitchen window in the morning, expecting to see her getting in her car and going to work. I miss her already :(

Last Thursday we left to go “Back Home Again in Indiana” for the Indianapolis 500 last Sunday. it is always a great time. We didn’t go last year, but went the two years before that. It’s so thrilling to sit there and watch the cars roar past at 220 MPH. Three of the wrecks that happened were right in front of us (no, not the Marco Andretti crash, though it wasn’t far from where we were). I took a boat load of pictures and a couple of videos (no sound). My fil surprised us by taking us to Carb day on Friday. Since the boys aren’t old enough yet to go to the race, this was their first race experience of any kind. We watched the final practice before Sunday’s race, and then we watched a bit of the Indy Pro Series race. Here are some pictures from Carb Day:

On race day, we were treated to a Chris Daughtry concert…FREE! He only played 4 songs, but he was awesome!

Pictures from the Indianapolis 500:

One of the crashes:

Not long after that, the sky opened up and the rain began. We sat through the entire 3 hour rain delay. I was bored, so I took some pictures, lol. Nothing fancy.

My mil and sil, sporting some movie star attitude:

Here’s the restart after the rain delay. There were 87 laps to go when the red flag came out. There were 30 something left when the rain came in again and they finally ended the race. I was so happy for Dario Frachitti! I really wanted Tony Kanaan to win, but Franchitti was my second choice :)

All in all, it was a great race! It was a perfect day for the race, too. Well, you know, except for those pesky rain drops. No one likes to see it end under a caution, much less a caution for rain.

Restaurant suggestions needed, please

Posted by Trisha on June 1st, 2007

I need some help from my Erie blogger readers. DH and I have been racking our brains to try to find a restaurant that is more upscale for date night. We never eat (or, so very, very rarely eat) at anything more upscale than Outback or Applebees, lol. If money was not a factor, where, in Erie would you go to eat?
